Alan was introduced to powder coating through his love for racing . In the late eighties Powder Coating on a custom level was a new Industry in the United States. Harley Davidson was the first American Company that began using powder coating on it's production line. Alan and Lorie saw the opportunity of this up and coming "Green Industry" and it's superiority to wet paint. Alan and Lorie opened ProCoat Performance Coatings in 1994, pioneering custom powder coating in the Tampa Bay Area.
Alan was born in Minnesota. His family stayed in Minnesota while his father finished his medical internship at the Mayo Clinic, Alan's family relocated to Tampa when Alan was two. Alan considers himself a Floridian and native of Tampa, he is one of four boys, his parents still reside in Tampa. Alan excelled at playing sports throughout his years at Berkeley Preparatory, graduating in the class of 1972. He then furthered his education at Washington Lee University and Miami Dade Community College, finishing his college education with a bachelor in Computer Science from the University of South Florida in 1982. Alan worked fifteen years with TECO as a systems analysis.
Alan's passion is sports-car racing. He began racing Go-karts at a young age and perfected his racing skills with SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) beginning in 1975. Alan finished fourth in the SCCA Nationals in 1986. Alan has built from the ground up two successful SCCA F Production race cars. He is currently on his third car built for E production in SCCA, hoping to re-enter racing in the winter season 2011.
Lorie was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Lorie is one of eight children, her parents and siblings, except for a brother all still live in Michigan. Lorie moved to Tampa in 1991. Alan and Lorie were married in 1995. Lorie's professional background is Bookkeeping, a perfect fit for the administrative needs of ProCoat Performance Coatings. Lorie continued her education in Interior Design at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa. Lorie's passion for design and color has been a true asset in their Powder Coating business.
